Education Journey

Navigating the Australian schooling system from early years to graduation.

The Schooling System

A quick breakdown of how education is structured across the states.

Early Learning

Most Aussie kids start in Long Day Care or Preschool (Kindy). The Child Care Subsidy (CCS) helps eligible families cover up to 90% of the cost.

Primary School

From Prep/Kindy up to Year 6. Focuses on foundational literacy, numeracy, and social development. Local catchment zones strictly apply.

Secondary School

Years 7 to 12. Culminates in state-based exams leading to the ATAR for university, or vocational pathways via TAFE and apprenticeships.

Homeschooling in Australia

Homeschooling (Home Education) is a legal and rapidly growing alternative in all Australian states. However, it is heavily regulated.

Each state has its own regulatory body you must register with:

  • NSW: NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority)
  • VIC: VRQA (Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority)
  • QLD: HEU (Home Education Unit)
  • WA: Department of Education

Registration usually involves submitting an educational plan demonstrating how you will cover the core subjects of the Australian Curriculum.
